I am in a writing class and was struggling with this week's task... I ended up writing an essay about a friend. It highlighted how important this friend is to me.
I love Rose Tremain! So hard to pick one to recommend, but if i had to pick one, it has to be Restoration which is 👌 The Gustav Sonata is also brilliant and comes a close second
Finally planting all the spring bulbs I ordered in September. Yes it is very late and some were a bit iffy looking but some will definitely come up and gives me something to look forward to post- Christmas when I tend to feel very low.
Having been feeling quite poorly for the last two months and being a reluctant patient, my Dr suggested adding a very small dose of another med that works well alongside my current tablet. After three days I felt slightly better and I’ve gone from strength to strength each day since. This obviously put a smile on my face. My Dr is excellent and I totally trust his judgement! I smile thinking of how he has helped me and feel huge gratitude for his knowledge!
My gorgeous Grandson,
My first grandchild is 10 months old, he is such a sweetheart and brings a smile to my face every time I think of him!!!
Babysitting,
Arranging with my daughter-in-law to look after my Grandson next Friday as she has a hen party to go to and my son, her husband is working... I can’t wait!
Going for a walk where I live in The Cotswolds and popping into our lovely little local pub for a drink at lunchtime,
We always receive such a warm welcome and this is always the case since we moved here seven years ago.
Being able to tell my two sons how much better I feel,
They have been worried about me. They both live and work in London so I try not to let them know if I’m struggling. As my eldest son said, they are adults now and I must confide in them. They would rather know how I am. Also, the messages I receive from them always make me feel better.
Looking for a nice dress for Christmas Day! 🎄
We are going to spend the Christmas period with our daughter-in-laws family. It will be a big family Christmas which I’ve never experienced being an only child. I smile now because I feel so much better to enjoy it!
Bryony’s latest venture,
I think this platform will be very different to others. Partly because Bryony has lots of knowledge about the difficulties she has experienced and what has helped her. She has heard from others, for example, people who join Mental health Mates who will have confided in her.
Just this ‘Dazzle’... I read Bryony’s comments on what has made her smile and noted the book she recommended. I’ll look to read it myself.
Getting in touch with my friends having been quiet recently,
I have had so many replies to my messages to my friends explaining how I’ve felt and why I’ve been so quiet. They have all said... I’m so pleased, I’ve missed you, I was worried about you, I’ve missed our chats etc... makes me realise how lucky I am to have them all in my life!
Spending quality time with my husband,
He has really looked after me whilst I felt so unwell. It’s now my time to look after him!
The congregation at church allowing my 10 year old to play the drums. He was completely out of sync with the music but it made everyone smile.
Discovering my favourite author (Norah Lofts) had written more books in the same vein as my favourite one of hers (The Suffolk Trilogy). That's winter sorted.
Congrats on 6 months! Grat lists have definitely grown on my over the years. It’s taken time, but I think they’re really important now. Help me to focus on the positives when it is SO easy to focus on the negs!
I have just finished Wintering by Katherine May - it was chicken soup for the soul in the most uncheesy way (apologies for all the food references!) Think it may be right up your street if you havent already read it. Xx
This morning I made blueberry pancakes for us all for breakfast and they were delicious, there is something about making pancakes for my family that feels like an act of love..it's not the usual weetabix thrown at them before I leave the house!
Love this piece and also your Telegraph article too. I’m so up for a 5pm party start and back in time for a cup of tea before bed at 10pm/ maybe 11pm if I’m feeling wild. :-)
Love the Dazzle list! Any kind of list that helps to put a little bit of focus on the good stuff is great, whatever you want to call it.
Some of the things making me smile in the last few days are finishing Kate Humble's book 'Where the Hearth is' – it really makes you think about what home means to you; cuddles with my Heinz 57 pup; we've had way more rain than I'd like but the payoff has been an abundance of rainbows; the delivery of a box of advance copies of my book from the publisher!
Gustav Sonata is wonderful. Would you ever consider writing about your response to Gabor Mate saying you aren’t an alcoholic? I’ve been sober for 13 yrs and his book “in the realm of hungry ghosts” was like a bible for me in early recovery. I totally understand how AA and being able to admit to being an addict has been brilliant for millions of people struggling with alcohol - so not a criticism, just curious. I totally understand if it’s not something you want to talk about on this platform. Happy Sunday from Canada 🇨🇦

Thank you Caroline!

I’m all for this. When I have a proper garden it’s going to be wild flowers a-go-go!

Looking forward to my Christmas break. Seeing family and friends and ready to relax. Thankful for good health (so far) and the ability to enjoy life.

Need to start doing grat lists given I’m almost 6 months in NA. This is actually the first grat list I’ve seen ...
Recently discovered Anne Tyler - also recommend her to all Rose Tremain fans, especially Dinner at the homesick restaurant.

Already in bed! 😂
🤣
Oh! I misunderstood what he meant - I’m going to listen again. Great interview with him btw. Thanks for responding. x
Thanks for being here!
Love the saying about radiators and drains- I will remember that!

I don’t think he was saying I *wasn’t* an alcoholic. More that I wasn’t *only* an alcoholic. Hope that makes sense!
