Something I've been working on is giving myself permission to cancel. It's hard! Because I take my commitments very seriously, and I often felt so hurt when people would cancel on me...
Now when people cancel on me, I'm much more understanding and give a lot of grace... Learning to give myself that same understanding and grace.
One of my favorite years was the one -- a decade or so ago -- when I decided I'd Had It with self-improvement and dedicated the New Year upcoming to the Year of No Self-Improvement. Very hard to do actually, but it was also very helpful... And, fun!
Bryony, try and limit yourself to only 2 commitments a day... Whenever I commit myself to more than 2 I cancel one of the 3 to keep stress free and sane...
I love that my daughter is a Swiftie. More than a decade ago, I loved driving and hearing my daughter in the back seat sing along in her soft, sweet voice. Over time I have loved watching my daughter and her role model grow and change. My daughter is off on her own now and still a Swiftie. I love that.
Your silence on Palestine is SHAMEFUL. WHAT ABOUT THEIR mental health. Silence is violence. We are going to draft a list of all the grifters we have supported and make sure we never support your work again 🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸
I chatted to my sister in law yesterday... on WhatsApp... she can’t find time to talk on the phone!
She is very stressed at the moment. She does have a huge amount on her plate!
So, trying to help, I invited her to come to stay, even if only for one night. She complained that she hasn’t even started on Christmas preparations so could she come in the New Year!
I asked her to think about what she could forget about doing. I suggested she send a message to everyone on her Christmas card list to say that, just for this year, she intends not send Christmas cards but to donate the money she would spend on cards and postage to charity! Charities are in great need this year so it’s a win win!
Charity benefits and my sister in law is relieved of some pressure.
Believe me, I’m not a person who feels she has all the answers! Just a month ago I was worrying about everything, I’d worry about the grass growing!!!
Just now I feel in a very good place. Does anyone else feel they can see other peoples problems clearly but not their own? That’s me! 🤣
I’m not sure if she will take my advice... she will probably be up all night writing cards in the days before last postage pre Christmas but she does have my suggestion to think about.
I also have a relative who has a parent very poorly in hospital. She is trying to work, look after her grandchild, be with her parent as much as possible... we all know that in order to look after loved ones we need to look after ourselves first.
Great news that you have come to the conclusion that it’s time to say ‘No’, cancel things, not take on too much Bryony! Such a good decision!!!
Accepting that I get stressed and overwhelmed instead of trying to fight it has been such a relief for me. Best wishes, and thank you for your lovely writing. 😊
From the inside I know that you see all your faults and flaws and have consistent commentary running through your head confirming all this and that's tortutuas. The mind is our battle field, our strongest muscle and every day can feel like we are in battle. Some days we can fight it other days it wins.
From the outside looking in at you, I see someone remarkable, someone dedicated and compassionate, strong and courageous, funny and intriguing, intelligent and wise. You have the most amazing laugh, smile where your eyes light up.
From reading your books you have not only helped and encouraged others, but you have given them hope and belief in themselves to. When you have moments of all those self doubts, hates and dislikes hold on to the thought that for everyone else you are a true beautiful gift.

I am the best person to cancel on. Cancel away. Do not apologise. Life happens!

Definitely going to try this at some point

I like this! Tomorrow I have… 5!
Love this: I’ve decided that instead of trying to improve myself, I’m going to go fully radical and just accept myself.

I love the idea of JOMO! Most memorable moments in life are when we’re present, and missing out on everything else.
